LARA’s Latest collective takes inspiration from pre-colonial patterns of Indigenous tribes in the Philippines. As an ode to our great Waray ancestors, century old prints on fabrics are reinterpreted on a new canvas- Samar banig. Entitled BULAWAN, which in Waray dialect means gold, LARA paints the season with luxury using metallic hues in gold, silver, copper and black, aside from the classic, natural color. Modern form takes shape in functional day-to-day-totes, backpacks, clutch slings and handbags. The banig once again is weaving its way through history as it translates the past into the contemporary.
